Paul Gallagher, the head of the foreign affairs department of the Catholic Church, announced that the Vatican has offered to host negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

Gallagher noted that the Holy See and the Pope personally have always been open to negotiations since the beginning of the war, but that no concrete responses have been received yet.

He made it clear that the proposal was still valid if it was necessary to present this place for the negotiations.

The archbishop was quoted by Mediaset newspaper, saying that the Holy Father would have reacted positively if the request came from both countries with good intentions and in the spirit of seeking peace and dialogue.

Earlier, the newspaper "La Stampa" expressed the opinion that the Vatican wants to become a mediator in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, and to this end, the Holy See is working to bring the two parties to the crisis closer.
