The Vatican announced that its guards shot a car that drove into Vatican Square on Thursday, which was driven by a man in a state of “psychological alteration.
The statement indicated that the accident occurred after 20:00, after the car approached one of the city's entrances, but the driver did not comply with the instructions of the guards, who asked him not to enter, yet, the car crossed the barriers and continued moving despite the gendarmes' fire, while the security services played emergency sirens immediately.
As a result, the car stopped in one of the inner courtyards of the Vatican, where heads of state usually arrive before meeting the Pope.
Immediately, a man in his forties got out of that car, and the signs of agitation were visible on his face, which necessitated his presentation to the doctors immediately.
It is noteworthy that the perpetrator is currently staying at the Vatican Police Headquarters, while the reason for doing so has not been mentioned yet.
