Uzbekistan to Hold Presidential Election in October

On July 13, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan announced the schedule for the upcoming Presidential elections in the Central Asian country.

According to the Press office of the Central Elections Committee, the presidential elections have been scheduled for October.

The press office also revealed that the counting of votes for all Uzbekistan's provinces will be held on 24 October. 

This date is proposed as the starting date for the Presidential elections in accordance with constitutional procedures and the election law of Uzbekistan (article 117), which has been amended lately.

Also in this regard, the election campaign will be held on 23 July 2021, the press office mentioned.

The decision was made in a joint meeting of the Central Elections Committee and the members of the Uzbekistan political segment.

The meeting was held with political parties bearers, representatives of civil society organizations, and the media.

The head of the Central Commission of Elections  Zeineldine Nizam Khojayev said: "In a step intended to boost the transparency of the upcoming elections, we have decided to establish  (Central Election Commission press center), which will monitor challenges to the election process, as called for in the Commission agreement.

The official opening of the CEC press center took place on July 23, according to Khojayev.

"We welcome the assistance offered by several domestic and international institutions to facilitate these elections," he said.

"The international press club will also take an active part in covering the event," he mentioned.
