To protect children from the dangers of social networking sites, the US state of Utah passed the first law of its kind, which requires parental consent for children and adolescents to enter social networking applications.
The newly adopted law imposes other restrictions, while the Associated Press (AP) said it is the first law designed to protect young people from addictive platforms.
Two laws are signed by the Republican Governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, on Thursday, which prohibits children under 18 years of age from using social media between ten thirty in the evening and six-thirty in the morning.
The law requires verification of the age of anyone who wants to use social media in the state.
But it opens the door to lawsuits on behalf of children who claim that social media has harmed them.
The companies that run social media platforms are expected to sue the state before the law goes into effect in March of next year.
