US welcomes initiative by Saudi Arabia for ceasefire in Yemen

The US Department of State praised on Monday Saudi Arabia's initiative for peace in Yemen and urged all parties to participate in UN-sponsored talks.

“The United States welcomes Saudi Arabia and Republic of Yemen government’s commitment to a ceasefire and political process in Yemen.”

A State Department official said that the United States welcomes Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Yemen government's commitment to a truce and democratic process in Yemen.

“We call on all parties to commit seriously to a ceasefire immediately and engage in negotiations under the auspices of the UN,” the official added.
