US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met on Monday, with UK Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, and North America James Cleverly in Washington DC, according to the Department of State.

They discussed continued diplomatic engagement to prevent further Russian actions against Ukraine, as well as deterrents including sanctions and security assistance to partners and allies in the region.

Moreover, they tackled the ongoing negotiations between the UK and the European Union (EU) to preserve the gains of the Belfast Agreement, as well as the preservation of a free and open Indo-Pacific region through the tripartite security partnership with Australia and the importance of ensuring Iran's return to compliance with the JCPOA.

It is worth mentioning that, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday that Russia might invade Ukraine within days.

“We believe that Russia has prepared the necessary capabilities to launch a major military operation against Ukraine,” Sullivan said in exclusive statements, published by “Reuters” news agency.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian presidency stressed that the chance of reaching a diplomatic solution to the crisis with Russia is higher than that of military escalation.

“The honest assessment of the situation indicates that the chance of finding a diplomatic solution for the de-escalation is still much higher than the threat of further escalation,” presidential advisor Mikhailo Podolyak said in a statement on Sunday.

This comes after US intelligence suggested that Russia has assembled 70% of the military power it needs to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
