US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Saturday that about 112,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan so far.

The US is currently discussing with the "Taliban" the possibility of maintaining a US presence in Afghanistan, after the agreed date to end the evacuations from Kabul, according to "Wall Street Journal".

On Wednesday, the US Congress revealed that at least 4,100 US citizens are in Afghanistan, amid attempts to evacuate them.

Two weeks ago, former Afghanistanian President Ashraf Ghani fled the country as the Taliban moved further into Kabul.

His countrymen and foreigners alike raced for the exit, signaling the end of a 20-year Western experiment aimed at remaking Afghanistan.
