Josh Hawley, a US Senator, urges officials of the Biden administration to resign due to the failure in arranging the withdrawal from Afghanistan that led to the speed return of the Taliban (an Afghani Islamist militant movement) to power in that country.
Hawley stressed that a full investigation should be launched in Congress into allegations of US government for the extravagance of abilities of the Afghani government along with lessening the strength of the Taliban, according to the Hill, a US daily newspaper that is specialized in the news of US Congress.
He tweeted that the unarranged walkout of Afghanistan means a catastrophe in the foreign policy of the United States of America (USA) since Vietnam when US forces left that country in 1975 after heavy defeats in fierce battles with the communist revolutionaries.
Hawley pointed out that Biden lost the trust of the American people and he also lost the ability to lead, asking Biden’s teams of foreign policy and defense to resign in addition to the whole administration.
It is worth noting that Hawley is a prospective candidate to run for the 2024 presidential election. In April he declared support to Biden’s decision to withdraw from Afghanistan.
In the same context, Mitch McConnell, leader of Republicans in the Senate, has criticized Biden many times throughout this week. But when he was asked by reporters of Fox News whether he supports resignations of Biden’s team, he refused to give decisive answers.
McConnell added that the President has the right to define who works for him but the withdrawal from Afghanistan has many negative types of fallout.
Other Republican legislators criticize Biden harshly for his way of dealing with the withdrawal.
Sen. Rick Scot, (R-Florida) has recently submitted the 25th amendment that permits enforcing the president to resign without completing his presidential tenure.
The Republicans also pressure to hold public hearings in Congress to investigate the method of handling the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
