The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the US House of Representatives (HoR), Michael McCaul, considered that China may try to take over Taiwan peacefully through the elections of a new president to run the island in January 2024.

McCaul said, "There are also political differences there as there are two Taiwanese parties.

One of them wants to talk to China, and the party of Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen doesn't want to be part of China. In my opinion, the next election in January next year is very important, because China will try to influence this election and take over the island without firing a shot."

McCaul added that sending US forces to Taiwan would mediate the options before Washington if Taiwan was invaded by China.

He went on to say during an interview with "Fox News": "If Taiwan is invaded by China, this option (to send American forces) will be on the agenda, and it will be discussed by Congress and the American people. The extent of American readiness will be discussed, and whether Taiwan deserves it."
