The United States announced new visa restrictions for members of the "Taliban" movement in response to preventing the employment and education of women in Afghanistan.
"I am taking action today to impose additional visa restrictions on certain current or former Taliban members, members of non-state security groups, and other individuals believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, repressing women and girls in Afghanistann," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement that hi
Blinken stressed that the US will continue to work in coordination with allied countries with the aim of making the Taliban realize that important repercussions will result from their actions that will close the way for improving their relations with the international community."
Since its return to power in August 2021, the Taliban movement has imposed severe restrictions on Afghan women, banning women from taking government jobs, and preventing them from attending secondary schools, universities, or even public parks.
The Taliban has also prevented government organizations from working with Afghan women since December, prompting many organizations to suspend their activities.
