US is expected to impose new sanctions, possibly as early as Thursday, on two illegal outposts in the West Bank that were used as bases for violent attacks by settlers against Palestinian citizens, according to three senior American officials.

The Axios site, quoting an American official, said that the sanctions expected to be imposed today (Thursday) send a message that the United States is not only targeting individuals, but also targeting entities involved in providing logistical and financial support for attacks against the Palestinians.

Officials told Axios that new sanctions will also be imposed on three Israeli settlers.

Last month, the Biden administration imposed sanctions on 4 Israelis it accused of involvement in settler violence in the West Bank, indicating the United States' growing dissatisfaction with the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The administration also said, in February, that Israel's expansion of settlement construction in the West Bank contravenes international law, indicating a return to long-standing American policy on this issue, which the administration of former President Donald Trump backed away from.

Israel has intensified its raids on the West Bank since the outbreak of the latest war in Gaza in October.

UN records show that at least 358 people have been killed in the Palestinian territories since October 7, a quarter of them children. The death toll in Gaza has already exceeded 31,000 since then.
