On Wednesday, the Egyptian Embassy in Cairo released a special video message from the US Ambassador to Egypt Herro Kader Mustafa Garg on the occasion of her first anniversary of appointing her as the US Ambassador to Egypt.
Garg said: "I am beyond excited to be with you celebrating one year anniversary in Egypt over the past year."
She reflected on her experience in Egypt, describing: "I have been privileged to travel across Egypt immersing myself in beautiful traditions and tasting the amazing food. I must acknowledge that this year has been full of challenges."
She added: "My heart goes out to all of those suffering and affected by conflict."
After that she talked about the US-Egypt relationship. She expressed: "The bond between Egypt and the US goes way back since 1922. Today, I am thrilled to say that our relationship is excellent. This year we are celebrating three significant anniversaries. First, 40 years since the establishment of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. There are over 1000 US affiliated companies operating in Egypt creating thousands of jobs for Egyptians.
Second, for 75 years for the Fulbright program that has helped thousands of Egyptian students and researchers pursue their education in the US. Moreover, we have built 2000 schools for primary school students and 21 STEM schools in Egypt. Third, 100 years since the establishment of Chicago House, the University of Chicago's flagship center of Egyptological Studies. The US has contributed more than 140 million to preserve Egypt's extraordinary cultural heritage.
We understand the importance of water security for Egypt and its people. 25 percent of all Egyptians now have access to clean water in their homes thanks to the US investments in collaboration with the Egyptian government."
She concluded: "As I reflect on the past year I want to thank you for your generosity and for making me feel like one of you."
