The United States has deported nearly 200 Venezuelan migrants from Guantánamo Bay, as part of President Donald Trump’s intensified crackdown on illegal immigration, according to the Associated Press.

A total of 177 Venezuelans were flown back to Venezuela on a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) chartered flight, making a brief stop in Honduras before reaching their final destination.

The Venezuelan government requested the repatriation of these migrants, who had been detained at the Guantánamo Bay detention facility after exhausting all legal appeals to remain in the US, according to US immigration authorities.

Under Trump’s push to expedite deportations, the number of individuals receiving final removal orders has surged to 1.5 million, including more than 22,000 Venezuelans.

While Venezuela previously resisted accepting deported migrants, the country recently agreed to cooperate following high-level political negotiations with the US.
