On Friday, US Attorney General Merrick Garland made a surprise visit to Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine.
Garland's visit came at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart. He attended several meetings and participated in the "United for Justice" conference.
The visit was not announced, ahead of time, for security reasons.
