The United States has announced a renewed commitment to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities by sending additional military equipment, a move drawing sharp criticism from Russia and raising concerns over prolonging the ongoing conflict.

President Donald Trump confirmed that the new aid package will prioritize defensive weapons, stating that Ukraine is currently under intense assault and must be equipped to defend itself.

Speaking from the White House, Trump emphasized the necessity of supporting Kyiv’s efforts to withstand Russian military pressure.

Following the President’s statement, the US Department of Defense issued a formal declaration confirming that additional defensive weapons will be dispatched to Ukraine under Trump's direction. The department also noted that its global review of military shipments remains ongoing to ensure strategic resource allocation.

Russia responded swiftly. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned that continued arms supplies to Ukraine would only extend the duration of the war and undermine international efforts toward a peaceful resolution. Peskov also criticized European countries for actively contributing to the hostilities through their military support, asserting that the full impact of the latest US weapons transfer will take time to assess.

Meanwhile, a senior Italian government official revealed that Keith Kellogg, President Trump’s envoy for Ukraine, is expected to attend an international aid conference in Rome on July 10–11. The summit aims to coordinate support for Ukraine’s reconstruction and development following the extensive damage caused by the war.

The World Bank has estimated that Ukraine will require about €500 billion for its recovery, modernization, and rebuilding efforts, underlining the vast scale of international financial and logistical support necessary in the coming years.
