The United States has approved a major $322 million arms deal with Ukraine aimed at strengthening the country’s air defense systems and armored vehicle fleet, amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, following a temporary pause in weapons deliveries to Kyiv earlier in July. The move signals renewed American commitment to Ukraine’s military support as the war with Russia intensifies.

The two-part package includes $172 million worth of equipment and maintenance for the HAWK air defense systems, as well as a $150 million deal for Bradley armored fighting vehicles and their maintenance.

According to the agency, the HAWK-related deal will enhance Ukraine’s capacity to defend against both current and future aerial threats by boosting its self-defense and regional security capabilities through stronger air defenses.

In addition, the Bradley vehicle deal will address Ukraine’s urgent need to maintain high operational readiness of US-supplied combat vehicles and weapon systems. It also aims to improve local maintenance capabilities to ensure consistent battlefield performance.

The US State Department has formally approved the deal, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency has submitted the required documentation to Congress for final authorization.

This latest military package follows a similar agreement in early May worth approximately $311 million, which focused on providing training and spare parts for Ukraine’s fleet of F-16 fighter jets.

The Biden administration continues to balance domestic and international pressures while navigating legislative hurdles to maintain a steady flow of military aid to Ukraine.
