Three new teams officially booked their places at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Uruguay sealed qualification for the fifth consecutive tournament after a commanding 3-0 victory over Peru at Montevideo’s Centenario Stadium.
Goals from Rodrigo Aguirre, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, and Federico Viñas secured the win, lifting Uruguay to third place in the South American qualifying table with 27 points. Peru remain ninth with 12.
Colombia also punched their ticket with a 3-0 triumph over Bolivia in Barranquilla, thanks to strikes from James Rodríguez, Jhon Córdoba, and Juan Fernando Quintero. The victory moved Colombia to fifth on 25 points.
Paraguay joined them after a goalless draw against Ecuador, a result that pushed them to 25 points in sixth place, the final automatic qualifying spot in South America.
Under the new format, the top six teams from South America qualify directly for the World Cup, while the seventh-placed side heads to the intercontinental playoffs.
