United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit Egypt on Thursday to meet with senior leaders.
The purpose of his visit is to ensure the safe and timely delivery of vital aid to the Gaza Strip and prevent a humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
During his visit, Guterres is expected to hold discussions with the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. Guterres will also participate in an international conference on the Israel-Hamas war.
According to Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the United Nations, "Safe passage is necessary to move humanitarian aid through Gaza. This will be a key topic of discussion during the Secretary-General's visit."
When asked if Guterres would travel to Gaza or Israel, Dujarric said that the Secretary-General would go wherever he felt his visit would have a positive impact, taking into consideration the security situation.
