In response to his call to resign from his position, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said: The real issue is not the leadership, but rather the dismantling of the organization.
He added: Whoever is at the head of the organization, the goal of dismantling UNRWA will remain.
He said: “I do not think that leaving the boat in turmoil is the solution that should be presented today.”
Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini added that he was appointed by the UN Secretary-General and reports to the UN General Assembly.
"We have the support of the vast majority of member states," he said. “The call to resign only comes from one member state.”
