UNIFIL peacekeepers said on Wednesday that they remain in their positions and on task.
In a statement, UNIFIL said: "Our work continues, including regular activities like rotation of troops in and out of Lebanon. We have no plans to leave and we are doing our utmost 24/7 to defuse tension and prevent further deterioration of the situation."
UNIFIL also noted that they have observed intense exchanges of fire in several areas along the Blue Line between Lebanese territory and Israel.
"There have been impacts on both sides of the Blue Line. Our headquarters in Naqoura was hit by a rocket and we are working to verify from where. Our peacekeepers were not in shelters at the time. Fortunately, no one was hurt." it added.
UNIFIL reaffirmed its commitment to engage with authorities on both sides of the Blue Line to de-escalate the situation, but regrettably despite our efforts military escalation continues.
It further urged all the parties involved to cease fire and allow us, as peacekeepers, to help find solutions. No one wants to see more people hurt or killed.
"We remind all the parties involved that attacks against civilians or UN personnel are violations of international law that may amount to war crimes."
