UNICEF took part in Egypt’s International Conference on Cybersecurity, which was held from May 16 to 18.

The conference was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The conference brought together a group of regional, international, and Egyptian experts to discuss various critical topics related to internet safety.

It aimed at exchanging ideas between countries and governmental and private institutions and concerned partners, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the Ministry of Justice, the Public Prosecution Office, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority, and the National Council for Women.

UNICEF participated in several seminars and panel discussions in the field of cybersecurity and the importance of enabling children and women to use the Internet safely.

UNICEF also organized a special seminar entitled “Protecting Children in the Digital Age: A Global Framework and National Adaptation”, which aims to present UNICEF's global framework and lessons learned from other countries to scale up existing efforts to support children's online participation.

The seminar tackled online bullying and discussed the best practices for protecting women and children online and providing a safe cyberspace for all.

In his remarks, UNICEF Representative in Egypt said Jeremy Hopkins said: "The digital environment offers myriad risks for children, but also opportunities for safe engagement and participation. This conference will contribute to enhancing child online protection and raising awareness about the digital rights of children."

"UNICEF is working with the Government and development partners to prioritize advocating for protecting children in cyberspace and creating safe opportunities for engagement and participation in the digital world,” he added.
