As a part of UN and WHO activities, the UN Information Center in Egypt is carrying out a blood donation campaign for the UN employees and its stakeholders with the mission to inspire people to donate blood, rooted in its belief in service for all.

The purpose of this massive campaign is to raise public awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion and of the critical contribution voluntary.

The day also provides an opportunity to call to action to health institutions to provide adequate resources and put into place systems and infrastructures to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors.

A special focus of the UN campaign is on the role of young people in ensuring a safe blood supply. At its headquarter in Cairo, young people have been at the forefront of this initiative that aims at achieving safe blood supplies through voluntary, non-remunerated blood donations.

The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in developing countries, according to WHO.
