UN official: Israel Arrested Nearly One Million Palestinians Since 1967

Francesca Albanez, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, said that Israel had arrested nearly a million Palestinians in the occupied territories, including tens of thousands of children.

She noted that there are currently 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli prisons, including 160 Children, and about 1,100 of them are detained without charge or trial.

Albanez added - in her first report to the Human Rights Council, which is holding its fifty-third session in Geneva, Switzerland, since her appointment - that the world has to recognize that most of the Palestinians have been convicted through a series of violations of international law such as discrimination, persecution, violations of legal procedures, and others, stressing that The widespread and systematic arbitrary deprivation of liberty of Palestinians is a structural component of their subjugation.

The UN rapporteur indicated that the implementation of the deprivation of freedom for the Palestinians in the occupied territories is in the hands of the Israeli army, which writes, imposes, and revises these martial laws that apply to Palestinians only.
