On Thursday, 25,000 Eritrean refugees in the Ethiopian Tigray received food supplies through a mutual campaign among the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Ethiopian Agency for Refugee & Returnee Affairs (ARRA).
Almost 250 tons of food have been delivered through 18 trucks to the local human organization in Ethiopia by the UN to be distributed among the Eritrean refugees' camps in Tigray.
In the same context, Steven Were Omamo, the Representative and Country Director for World Food Program (WFP) in Ethiopia, expressed that delivering those supplies to refugees cheered him, adding that they previously were aided by food supplies in October.
The previous aid was expected to last for two months.
He continued that these refugee camps mainly depend on that aid and it means life for them.
Moreover, Ann Encontre, the UNHCR Representative in Ethiopia, explained that many families were away from any supplies for weeks ago, so there was a huge need to distribute those aids.
She underscored the necessity of organizing such aid campaigns for the other refugee camps alongside providing them with the essential needs of housing, medical caring, and education as soon as possible.
