UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Mohammed Al-Amin Weld Kik inked on Monday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the cooperation between the two entities.
The MoU aims to increase the technical cooperation between UN-Habitat and LAS Member States as well as related entities and establish close cooperation frameworks to achieve a comprehensive urban development approach, according to statement recently issued by UN.
"It will foster more cooperation among local governments in the Arab region, the statement noted.
"It is a great honor and pleasure for me to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between UN-Habitat and the League of Arab States. We have a long history of collaboration on housing and sustainable urban development in the Arab region," Sharif said after signing the MoU.
"Signing this with the League's Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Mohammed Al-Amin Weld Kik, Assistant Secretary General, affirms that we will maximize our respective strengths to complement each other’s work to promote transformative change in Arab cities through knowledge exchange, policy advice, technical assistance, over the next 5 years," added UN-Habitat Executive Director.
