The Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) announced in a statement, yesterday, Monday, that the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is worsening and things are getting worse day after day.
The statement read: “Seven weeks of aggression against Gaza have led to massive losses that have shocked the world, but over the past four days, the weapons have fallen silent.
The statement appreciated the release of Israeli and foreign hostages held by Hamas and other Palestinian resistance factions, and Palestinian prisoners have been released from Israeli prisons.”
The statement added: “The Secretary-General commends the governments of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States for facilitating these procedures, and appreciates the critical role played by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
They stressed that the United Nations will continue to support these efforts in all possible ways, and during these past four days, the United Nations has expanded the scope of humanitarian access.”
Aid was sent to some northern areas in the Gaza Strip that had been largely isolated for weeks. But this aid hardly meets the enormous needs of 1.7 million displaced people.
