The UN Relief Chief Martin Griffiths called for an end to "carnage" in Haiti, where escalating violence killed and injured more than 70 people in the last two weeks.
“This carnage needs to stop,” said Griffiths.
According to the UN Humanitarian Affairs office, OCHA, which Mr. Griffiths heads, about 71 people have been killed and injured in the capital Port-au-Prince, marking a major escalation in the past two weeks alone.
Philippe Branchat, acting UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the country said: “Entire families, including children, were executed while others were burned alive. This upsurge in violence has caused unspeakable continued suffering of Haitians.”
It's worth mentioning that gang violence in the Caribbean country has claimed more than 2,500 lives, with over 1,000 injured.
