Secretary-General of United Nations, Antonio Guterres, renewed his call on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to stop the fighting and commit to a permanent cessation of hostilities, and urged the two parties to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law and human rights law with the aim of protecting civilians and enabling humanitarian action.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations said, according to the United Nations Information Center today, that he remains deeply concerned that the ongoing war has pushed Sudan to the brink of full-scale civil war, which may lead to the destabilization of the entire region.

Guterres stressed that the United Nations continues to press for the coherence of international efforts under the auspices of the coordination structure of the African Union, welcoming the strong participation of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
