A report issued by the United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs revealed that at least 36.1 million residents of the East and Horn of Africa region are suffering from hunger and lack of drinking water due to the unusually prolonged drought for nearly two and a half years.
The report also warned that 2.9 million children of the Horn of Africa are currently suffering from malnutrition, and 986.1 thousand nursing mothers and pregnant women in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya suffer from illnesses caused by malnutrition due to the crop shortage from climate changes and drought.
As for drinking water, the report said that at least 16.3 million people from the Horn of Africa face problems accessing drinking water due to drought.
