Sudan's authorities revealed on Monday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) officially withdrew from its initiative to mediate in a conflict over Sudan's border with Ethiopia.

Sudan's authorities indicated that Abu Dhabi reiterated its respect for Sudan's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and the stance of Sudan in regard to increasing the construction of the boundary pillars, UAE's Elsharq reported.

According to the UAE initiative, the Sudanese authorities will carry out the delineation and demarcation of the borderline as per article 3 of the 1902 agreement and will compile border documentation that will describe the manner of demarcation of the common borderline and the location of the border signs.

On the other hand, the stance of Ethiopia on settling long-standing issues between the two countries and improving bilateral relations had remained unchanged.

In March, Sudan's authorities said they have accepted an offer by the UAE to mediate with Ethiopia over a contested border region and Addis Ababa's controversial hydroelectric dam.

Renewed clashes between Ethiopian militant and Sudan's forces erupted in November, with intense battles raging in the various regions in Sudanese boards and Ethiopian territory.

According to international reports, Sudanese authorities have sent troops into the Al-Fashaqa area, a move deplored by Ethiopia as an "invasion".

Also in this regard, Fashqa recently witnessed a deadly escalation and territorial violations.
