After Turkish opponents criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's policies towards political prisoners, they received death threats.
Among them was the leader of the opposition Republican People's Party Kemal Kılıçdarolu, who received a number of death threats, according to Turkish news .
Meanwhile, the opposition party spoke of the MHP as a "paid killer" for Erdogan, knowing that the latter party is allied with the president.

After releasing mafia leader Alaeddin Çakıcı, sent a letter filled with threats and insults to Kılıçdarolu, for his defense of the Turkish opposition and accused him of "treason."
Çakıcı, is a mafia leader and a criminal convicted in many armed crimes inside and outside Turkey, such as; the attempt to kill journalist Henjal Uluj, and carrying out an armed attack on a club in Fatih district in Istanbul.

Noteworthy, Bulent Arinc, Presidential High Advisory Board member and former deputy prime minister, resigned following a dispute with President Erdogan, over recent remarks in which Arinc criticized the imprisonment of Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtas and prominent businessperson and dissident civil society figure Osman Kaval.
