A team of Tunisian engineers succeeded in developing a computer program to detect the infected people with the Coronavirus.

The program depends on methods of the artificial Intelligence (IT). But that program is still in the experimental phase so far.

The Tunisian National Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology supervises the initiative of the that program which bases on analyzing images of X-ray of the possible infected persons with the deadly virus.

Mustafa Hamdy, supervisor over the program told the reporters, that the new program was introduces freely via the Internet. He revealed that more than one thousand radiologists across the Arab world volunteered to take part in researches related to the program, affirming that it proved effectiveness in the primary stages.

Hamdy added that the accuracy of the program to detect the suspects of the infection with the Coronavirus reaches 90%.

Hamdy pointed out the new program shortens time to spot the infected persons when there are big numbers.

The program also advises the medical crews to refer the possible infected people to various departments to receive treatment.

The program enables the medics to upload X-ray images of the infected with the Coronavirus (The World Health Organization renamed it on March 10 as COVID-19).

In the program, a computer analyzes the uploaded images according to strict algorithms the result appears on the screen. When it is green this means that the person has no infection with the deadly virus and vise versa when it comes red.

IMB Company and the German Agency for International Cooperation support the Tunisian program ahead of authorizing it officially. Hospitals house the infected with the COVID-19 began to apply the program as a tool in diagnosing the patients.

On the other hand, the Tunisian government urges researchers to benefit from methods of IT to confront the Coronavirus.

Those infected with the virus in Tunisia are 822 persons while 37 people died of the Coronavirus.
