Tunisia Thwarts 11 Illegal Immigration Attempts, Rescues 218 Immigrants

Today, Friday, the Tunisian authorities announced that they had thwarted 11 illegal immigration attempts and rescued 218 migrants from drowning.

A spokesman for the General Administration of the Tunisian National Guard said - in a statement - that the maritime units of the Border Guard were able to thwart 11 illegal immigration attempts, and rescued 218 immigrants, including 21 Tunisians and 197 of foreign nationalities after their boats sank at sea.

The spokesman appealed to Tunisian citizens, in cooperation with the General Administration of the National Guard, to report the organizers of irregular migration operations or the intermediaries, given the danger these operations pose.

Last November, a spokesman for the General Administration of the Tunisian National Guard said - in a statement - that in the context of addressing the phenomenon of irregular migration, units of the Nabeul maritime region were able to thwart a surreptitious crossing of the maritime borders, rescue, and rescue 11 Tunisian immigrants.
