Tunisia has taken a firm stance against online defamation, declaring that legal action will be taken against those who deliberately spread false information and engage in character assassination on social media platforms.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad emphasized that while social media provides a space for communication and constructive criticism, it should not be misused to continuously denigrate state officials and ministry employees who are entitled to legal protection of their dignity.

The Ministry stated its intention to utilize all available legal measures to identify and prosecute individuals who own online platforms involved in such activities. It also warned against malicious comments on official ministry sites, emphasizing that legal action will be taken against those spreading fake news or insults.

Tunisia, which witnessed the power of social media during the Arab Spring, recognizes the need to balance freedom of speech with the protection of its institutions and citizens. The Ministry's statement reflects Tunisia's efforts to navigate the challenges of governance in the digital era, a concern shared by governments worldwide.
