On Monday, US President Donald Trump attacked once again the physician Anthony Fauci, who is highly respected in the United States and a member of the Covid-19 Crisis Cell, at the White House.
"People are tired of talking about COVID-19," Trump said during a phone call with members of his campaign team, in the presence of the media.
The US president added, according to the US Politico Network, "People say: Leave us alone. They are tired of listening to Fauci and all these idiots."
The pandemic killed more than 219,000 people in the United States.
"He has been in this position for 500 years," Trump said sarcastically, referring to the 79-year-old, who runs the Infectious Diseases Institute.
The US president continued, "If we had listened to him, about 700,000 or 800,000 people would have died," considering at the same time that his dismissal would be counter-productive with the approaching presidential elections on November 3.
A week ago, Fauci expressed his dissatisfaction with the use of his statements in a video prepared by the Trump campaign team about the emerging Coronavirus.
After nearly five decades of working in the public service, I have never announced public support for any candidate," he said, denouncing that his statements had been taken out of context.
Fauci tried more than once to clarify and correct Trump's statements about vaccines or treatments being developed against the pandemic.
in April when Trump retweeted a post containing the tag "# Expel Fuchi", before confirming that "Tony" Fauchi is doing a wonderful job.
