Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, and Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, held an expanded meeting on Tuesday, with a number of investors in the field of tourism development, to boost development rates, and discuss their problems and proposals.
The meeting was held in the presence of Mustafa Mounir, CEO of the General Authority for Tourism Development.
Fathy stressed that many priorities must be focused on to enhance tourism investment in Egypt, especially in the hotel sector, to receive the targeted tourist numbers.
He explained that the initiatives that were launched during the past period will contribute to encouraging and attracting more tourism investments, and provide more facilities and incentives that will contribute to achieving the desired goals of this promising sector.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities pointed to the need to identify the obstacles that may prevent the rapid development of tourism investment and work to solve them as well overcoming any obstacles that investors may face to attract more investments to this vital sector, promote investment opportunities to expand the establishment of more tourism projects across the republic and create new tourist destinations.
He added that the ministry's work strategy during the next stage will focus on diversifying the targeted tourism patterns and markets and working to develop each tourism pattern separately so that the Egyptian tourist destination is the first in the world in terms of diversity of tourism patterns and products.
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny explained that the tourism development file is one of the most important files on the current government’s agenda.
He added that the Prime Minister has directed a ministerial group dedicated to tourism development, stressing that Egypt pays great attention to maximizing returns from the field of tourism development and providing all support to investors in this field.
The Minister of Housing added that an urgent plan has been developed to maximize the role of the General Authority for Tourism Development, achieve the highest rates of tourism investment, and optimally exploit the tourist areas that distinguish the country, that are characterized by a unique nature at the level of the Middle East.
He pointed out that the plan will involve several initiatives:
- Committee established under the decision of the Prime Minister and the membership of the relevant bodies.
- Establish an electronic platform for tourism investment.
- Update the current websites and plans for tourist centers.
- Diversify participation mechanisms with the country
- Organize relationships between the tourism developer and small investors
- Create new tourism products and other measures that support tourism activity.
