Egypt’s manpower ministry announced that next Thursday, 12 August, will be a paid official leave for all private-sector workers in celebration of the new Islamic Hijri year 1443.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry added that companies have the right to ask employees to work during this day on job requirements, but are still legally obliged to pay double the normal wage to those who work during a holiday.

It is worth mentioning that, on this day, Muslims celebrate 1443 years since Islam’s Prophet Muhammad -peace be upon him- migrated from Mecca to Medina, to save Muslims from torture by leaders of Quraish, an Arab tribe Muhammad was part of, and to protect the proselytism of Islam from being eradicated by disbelievers at that time.
