On Saturday, Germany international and Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller announced his departure from the Bavarian club by the end of this season.
Müller posted on social media: "Hello Bavaria fans,
after a lot of speculation about my personality lately, with this letter I would like to take the opportunity to provide clarity. Even after all these years, regardless of my playing minutes, I still have a lot of fun standing on the court with the boys and fighting together for titles for our colors. I could have imagined this role well next year as well.
However, the club has deliberately decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season. Even if this did not meet my personal wishes, it is important that the club follows its convictions. I respect this step, which the Board and Supervisory Board certainly didn't take lightly.
The back and forth in public over the past weeks and months, I understandably did not like it. Here, however, I think it is with my football game: This was not always characterized by perfection either, but positively forward-thinking towards the next action. After a mispass, it is important to reclaim the ball with team solidarity. In the past few days, we have achieved that in trusting conversations in this matter.
I feel the appreciation from everyone involved for my long time at FC Bayern and feel deep joy to have spent 25 incredibly intense years for my heart club. Through so many great shared moments, I will be forever connected to FC Bayern and with you.
Now the full focus is on our sporting season goals. It would be a dream for me to bring home the champion's bowl again and reach the long-awaited final Dahoam at the end of May. I will give everything for this!
Thank you for all that has been and all that is yet to come. ❤️😊
Always forward FC Bayern! 🔴⚪️
Your Thomas"
