The Secretary-General of the United Nations: Israel’s reports are provocative and we must stop

Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed his alarm at reports that the Israeli army intends to focus in the next phase on Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are in narrow spaces in a desperate search for safety.

He added: “Such an action would significantly increase what is already a humanitarian nightmare, with major regional consequences.”

He stressed that any action by the Israeli army in Rafah would greatly exacerbate the humanitarian nightmare in Gaza.

He concluded his speech by saying: The situation in the Gaza Strip constitutes a bleeding wound in our collective conscience that threatens the entire region.
