The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, says that Islam forbids forcing a woman to marry someone she does not accept as her husband.
He added : Islam has also given the family the right to reject any unsuitable spouse that their daughter chooses
Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam, added : Religious faith that promotes tolerance, duty of care, and responsibility is the standard that should be present in both men and women when deciding to get married.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam, says : Both spouses are not free to treat each other based on their moods, hatred or stubbornness! There is a religious responsibility that calls for treating each other with affection and respect to ensure the stability of the family.
He added : The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade a man from proposing to the woman who has already been proposed to by his brother, because this could cause negative effects and ignite enmity and hatred among people, which is far from the noble moral standards.
