I enjoy the opinions of Dr. Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt. He is one of our venerable scholars who can always correct many of the misconceptions held by some Muslims.
Dr. Shawki Allam, as we all know, is the Mufti of the country and the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide.
Let me talk about the last episode of the "Ask the Mufti" program, presented by the distinguished journalist Hamdi Rizk, in which he talked about the existence of prophets during the era of the Pharaohs. He said:
Lack of some facts that clarify the lives of some prophets does not prove their non-existence
It is not within the authority of scholars to declare anyone a disbeliever.
Judgment of disbelief of any person can only be made through the judiciary, and is not made except after careful verification of the matter.
We should not judge people that this person is in Hell and this person is in Paradise.
Dr. Shawki speaks simply and in a language that reaches the heart. He was able to change many of the misconceptions that dominated the street and in which we believed.
He plays a wonderful enlightening role in addition to his role as Mufti of the country. He moved the Egyptian Fatwa House to the ranks of the world and established an international arm that became the cornerstone of the Islamic world because of its reliance on consolidating the moderate Islam. Among his most prominent views are:
Renewing religious discourse has become a life necessity and a civilizational imperative in this era as a result of what our Arab and Islamic world is going through, the spread of religious or sectarian extremism basing on ideas that stifle creativity and limit freedom of thought and expression, in addition to the acceleration of technological events and developments. This does not mean changing our constants, but rather correcting legal concepts, and clarifying the rules of the correct understanding of religion while taking into account the variables.
Building awareness is a shared responsibility among all institutions, especially religious ones.
In recent years, under the leadership of Dr. Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, The Egyptian Fatwa House was able to participate in awareness-building issues such as the danger of population increase and early marriage, the danger of wasting resources, environmental pollution, the danger of extremism, and others.
His Eminence the Mufti has many scientific studies on thorny issues such as:
Determining and changing gender between prohibition and legality
Women and globalization in the Arabian Peninsula..
Political rights of Muslim women,
Greetings to His Eminence the Mufti for all the knowledge and thoughts he provides to all of us.
