Teachers in Texas Carry Guns to Protect Students- Report

A group of school teachers in Utopia, Texas decided to protect the students and the school with armed personnel, media agencies reported on Friday.

The teachers hung a warning sign on the school's entrance saying: "Warning! This establishment is protected by armed personnel."

This action was made after 19 students were killed in Texas after an armed man opened the fire against the students.

Micheal Derry, a school teacher, said: “There’s no way to completely prevent these things from happening."

“But I think it’s a huge deterrent to know that there are people here (at school) who are armed and ready to do anything to protect our children.”

Derry also revealed that the teachers took the initiative as there is a lack of police officers around the small town.

“We are very isolated. And sheriff’s departments are very busy in the south of the county, where people cross the border (with Mexico, nldr). So it takes at least 25 to 30 minutes for the police to arrive, and it’s too late, ”he added.
