The Syrian Ministry of Defense has deployed additional reinforcements to the Iraqi border in response to significant military buildups by Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), according to reports from Russian news agency Sputnik.
Iraqi authorities confirmed the arrival of large reinforcements to the Anbar Operations Sector as part of a strategic plan to secure the border and prevent any infiltration attempts or threats to regional stability.
Qasim Musleh, the Commander of Anbar Operations in the PMF, stated that the sector has been continuously reinforced to address sensitive security challenges along the frontier.
In response, a source from Syria’s Ministry of Defense under the Syrian Interim Government emphasized the need for state-led control of the border.
The source stated, "We understand Iraq’s security concerns regarding the border and reaffirm that security on the Iraqi side should remain under the jurisdiction of the Iraqi state, not armed factions."
The Syrian official also highlighted a recent meeting with an Iraqi intelligence delegation in Damascus, during which both sides agreed to enhance security coordination to combat ISIS and maintain border stability.
Additional Syrian military units have been deployed to key crossings and checkpoints, with plans for reinforcements to the Deir ez-Zor border region in the coming days.
