Coptic Christmas, which was designated a national holiday in 2002 in Egypt, will be a paid day off for employees in ministries, government institutions, public sector companies, and local administrations.

Coptic Orthodox Egyptians, who make up 90 percent of the country's Christian population, celebrate Christmas on January 7 according to the Julian calendar.

Smaller Egyptian Christian denominations - such as Catholics and Evangelicals - celebrate Christmas on December 25th, according to the Gregorian calendar.
