UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has abandoned former Prime Minister Liz Truss’ plans in the energy sector, according to Sky News channel.

Truss’s plan included Britain buying electricity from foreign producers.

The channel added that Sunak abandoned a plan according to which the state would buy energy from foreign producers. The working group for energy provision, which was formed by Truss during her short term as prime minister, is currently being liquidated.

The channel noted that the government is abandoning its plan to directly interfere in global gas markets.

According to the data available to Sky News, the Energy Savings Initiative was launched in September under the former prime minister to secure long-term deals with local and international energy providers with the aim of enhancing domestic energy security in the country.

Earlier, the National Grid company, which oversees the operation of the UK’s unified energy grid, presented a contingency plan, which stipulates the possibility of regular power outages for three hours in the country in the event of a cold winter and a halt to Russian gas supplies.

On its part, the British energy regulator Ofgem said the country is facing a shortage of gas amid an energy crisis that could lead to the bankruptcy of a number of gas-fired power stations.
