Sudan denounced on Saturday the statements of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) director, regarding the 3rd filling of the dam, describing them as “irresponsible.”
Sudan confirmed that the Ethiopian side "does not care" about the potential damage to Sudan and Egypt, as a result of the third filling process, against the background of the director's statements that the third filling will be implemented next August and September.
"Sudan is following with concern the irresponsible statements of the director of the Renaissance Dam in Ethiopia, in which he ignored Sudan's consistent position on the process of filling and operation of the dam until reaching a fair and binding legal agreement that achieves the interests of the peoples of the three countries," Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Moreover, The statement denounced the Ethiopian side's indifference to the potential damage on the Sudanese side, despite its acknowledgment of the possibility that both Sudan and Egypt would be affected by the third filling process, a matter which indicates that Ethiopia wants to move forward with its previous unilateral positions.
In addition, Sudan called on Ethiopian officials to stop making such undisciplined statements and to adhere to the principles of diplomacy through dialogue and negotiation as an option to resolve the dispute between the three countries over the Renaissance Dam.
