The Preliminary Committee of the Sudan Doctors Syndicate announced on Wednesday that 17 people were killed and 106 others were wounded in the bombing of the Mayo area (Souq 6), south of the capital, Khartoum.

In a statement, The Syndicate said: "Yesterday (Wednesday) witnessed a violent and bloody bombing, which left 17 deaths and more than 106 injuries, of which 36 required surgical intervention, and the cases are still increasing."

The statement confirmed that the medical staff at Bashaer Teaching Hospital experienced great pressure in dealing with cases due to their large number and the lack of numbers of medical staff.

The statement added that the syndicate appeals to all doctors and medical personnel present near the hospital to extend a helping hand as much as possible to their colleagues stationed in Bashaer Hospital, taking into account personal safety in movement."
