A recent study, the largest of its kind, found that people who live in areas with a high level of air pollution become more likely to develop more than one serious disease in the long run, according to a report by the British newspaper, The Guardian.

The newspaper revealed that the study targeted more than 360,000 people between the ages of 40 and 69, who had health data from the UK Biobank.

The study found that pollution was a cause of many neurological, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and common mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, and not only that, the pollution damage reached the health system and negatively affected the economy.

The study demonstrated that there is an additional 20% chance of developing multiple long-term illnesses for those living with particulate matter pollution.
