A recent medical study conducted in the United States of America (USA) based on statistics from 2021 data revealed that about one in seven American children between the ages of 5 and 17 undergo some form of mental health treatment.
The study, conducted by researchers at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USCDC), found that rates of mental health care were high among older children (those between the ages of 12 and 17), with nearly 19% of them receiving treatment during 2021, compared to children ages 5 to 11 (just over 11%).
One expert said the new statistics do not necessarily mean that more American children are suffering from mental illness, but that it may mean that more are receiving the care they need.
In the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic, the researchers reported, the United States has seen significant increases in mental health concerns among young people.
