Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fired Health Minister Pavitra Vanyarachi for practicing magic rituals to combat the Coronavirus in the country.
The Sri Lankan minister is accused of using "magic and magic potions" to combat the spread of the deadly virus.
The president said that Vagnarachi “publicly used in January a “magic potion” she received from a magician to protect herself from infection with the Coronavirus.
Moreover, the minister poured some "sacred water" into the river to eradicate the Covid epidemic in Sri Lanka
However, Vagnarachi did not escape Corona, as she contracted the infection and was treated in the intensive care unit of a clinic.
Kehelia Rambukwella, the Minister of Information, was assigned to head the Ministry of Health, while it was reported that Vaniyarachi, however, will remain in the government, because she also holds the Ministry of Transport, which is less important in the current pandemic conditions.
On the other hand, the International Police Organization (Interpol) issued a warning against fraudsters targeting governments with fraud-related crimes regarding the Coronavirus in all parts of the world.
The Interpol said that in more than 60 cases in 40 countries, representatives of health ministries and hospitals had received offers to purchase the anti-corona vaccines that had been approved for distribution in their countries.
According to the statement issued by the organization, the scammers usually claim to represent a vaccine manufacturer or a government organization that facilitates the distribution of vaccines.
Scammers try to contact people's email addresses as well as by phone, and they also use fake websites and fake information on social media.
INTERPOL's Secretary General Jürgen Stock said even when a fraud attempt fails, it is important to report to the police on the crime so that potential links can be identified to warn the authorities about these threats.
